SOCIAL CHANGES IN GREAT BRITAIN
When William Williams was born in 1800, Great Britain was experiencing vast changes in the basic pattern of everyday life due to the Economic Revolution.
In 1770, steam power was first used in the production of food and manufactured good. This led to a marked extension of trade and commerce through the use of power-driven machines.
MIGRATION OF BRITISH POPULATION
By 1815 in Great Britain, the rapid growth in population and urban life created problems with housing, food supplies, street construction, public order and health and sanitation.
As a result of the worsening living conditions, a great number of people emigrated to the United States of America and to the British Colonies, including Canada and Australia.
